Three Exciting Events in 2012!

inner on the Porch TV Pilot World Premiere!

Kay's Kitchen Set to Host 2012 Cooking Classes!

Season Kick-off at Crystal Crate and Cargo!

There were plenty of lights, cameras, and action this past summer as Chef Jim and friends filmed a TV pilot all about cooking, parties, and Crystal Lake.  Independent producer Gary Harrison spent a week at Sunny Shores in June 2011 with a camera crew bringing Chef Jim's cookbooks to life.  It captures Jim planning and preparing for a dinner party on the porch including buying fish at Monty's fish market in Frankfort, selecting wine at East Shore Market in Beulah, and preparing the whole meal in his little cottage kitchen.  Most of the local characters are part of the action as well; Marjorie's hard at work making her strawberry "shortcake", Jim Beck is still trying to get his boat in the boat lift, and Betsie and Bob are hosting another cooking class.  It's all great fun.  The worldwide premiere is scheduled for July 2, 2012 at the Garden Theater in Frankfort.  Mark your calendars now and check back here in the Spring to find out how to purchase tickets for this one-time event.  You won't want to miss it!  All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Elizabeth Lane Oliver Center for the Arts.

Kay's Kitchen in the new Elizabeth Lane Oliver Center for the Arts (formerly the old Coast Guard Station in Frankfort) is set-up and ready for culinary arts classes!   As the Director of Culinary Arts, Chef Jim will be teaching at least one class a month starting June 7, 2012 and running through October.  He will also be bringing visiting chefs and culinary experts in every month to teach additional classes; offering students lots of variety and a chance to study with other local, and non-local, chefs.  The 2012 schedule is posted on this website under the "Art Center Classes" tab and also on the Crystal Lake Art Center's website at www.crystallakeartcenter.org.   To enroll in these classes, please contact the Crystal Lake Art Center at 231-352-4151.  The new Center for the Arts is a beautiful facility, and Kay's Kitchen is one of the stand-outs of the Center.  We can't wait to start the new season in our stunning new facility.

In addition to the classes at the Art Center, Chef Jim will be teaching a full dinner class one evening a month in private homes around the area.  The menus for the dinner classes have been finalized and the schedule is published under the "Dinner Classes" page on this website.  Enrollments are now open for the dinner classes.  Reserving your seat early is not a bad idea since these classes fill up fast.  Just go to the "Dinner Classes" page on this website, select the class/classes you desire, then go to the "Enroll/Feedback" page and fill out the form.

Chef Jim will be kicking off the 2012 season with an event at Crystal Crate and Cargo in Beulah on Sunday, May 27 (Memorial Day Weekend) from noon until 3p.m.  He'll be demonstrating recipes from all three of his cookbooks in the store's kitchen and handing out plenty of samples.  He'll also be available to sign cookbooks so if you're missing one of Chef Jim's  three cookbooks, this would be a great time to complete your set.

There's no new cookbook this year but all three of Jim's current cookbooks are still available.  More  information on the three cookbooks and where you can find them is located on the "Cookbooks" tab on this website.
